This month Tom Townsend is taking some time to showcase his songs in all their stripped down glory. This is the big test for any singer-songwriter – can he or she cut the mustard with a lone voice and a single instrument? If you’d like a pre-gig taster of how well Tom can do this, then check out the acoustic version of “Walk With Me” on SoundCloud and you’ll find yourself happily walking with Tom wherever he asks you to go. Tom’s songs are a rare mix of persuasive tempos and seductive melodies that play physiological havoc; one minute you’re pulsing like a loon, the next you’re heaving great soulful sighs. After several gigs of Tom at his purest, he returns to his collaborative best to round off the month with a big band finale. Whether solo, or in full band mode, Tom will give you a night to remember at any of the following venues:
1st Oct: Solo at Café #9, Sheffield. £7 door. Tom shares the billing with Ash Gray (from Austin, Texas: Americana from Sheffield’s adopted son). Café #9 is a chilled out café that loves its music.
21st Oct: Solo at the Old Ticket Office, North Ferriby Railway Station. £15 Tickets. A genuine old railway station, although Tom will be the only source of steam tonight.
22nd Oct: Solo at the Tap & Tankard, Sheffield. The Tap and Tankard is home to Kelham Island Brewery, so it’s an opportunity to satisfy your taste in beer as well as music.
28th Oct: Tom and 6-piece band @ Otley Courthouse, Otley. The jazz-inspired singer-songwriter brings a cracking band of world-class players to The Courthouse for an exciting night of foot-stomping fun. The show starts at 8pm. For tickets, please call the box office on 01943467466.
