September 2016 (not long now!) sees Tom Townsend back in full cry with a full band (including horn section), bringing his ‘nobody-else-like-him’ blend of soul-soaked vocals and floor-trembling rhythms to Yorkshire and Humberside. For those of you yet to spend an evening in the company of this high-voltage performer, be warned, it may get sweaty. But just when you’re in need of a good towelling down and the nearest defibrillator, Tom will soothe your brow with some cool, laid back solo tunes. Hard to define, an evening of Tom’s music is a breezy, playful cross between the barrel house energy of New Orleans jazzmen, the stadium sophistication of Steely Dan, and the coffee house intimacy of Paul Simon. Every note is worth every penny, so catch him if you can at the following gigs:
9th Sept: Tom solo @ The Lamplight Club, Sheffield. Entry free. With Tom supporting the amazing Dan Michaelson, this night promises to hold you spellbound!
10th Sept: Tom and full band @ Elloughton Village Hall. £10 tickets. This should be a really good old fashioned dance hall night, with rafters rattling and windows gasping for air.
22nd Sept: Tom and full band @ Scarborough Jazz Festival Fringe, The Den (The Cask Inn). £10 Tickets. Just as The Cavern will forever be associated with the Beatles, so will this venue be forever associated with Tom Townsend. It is a fun-infested cellar-bar with a jazzy DJ to keep the mood nicccce.
